Barbara J. Shaw

Barbara Joan Royal Shaw, 90, of Oakdale, passed away Aug. 7, 2025. After a brief but courageous battle with illness. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family. Barbara Joan Royal, the daughter of Maurice Ervin Royal and Irma Louise Knapp, was born in Houlton, Maine Nov. 1, 1934.

Barbara married her high school sweetheart, LeRoy Raymond Shaw Sr., July 27, 1953 in Houlton, Maine. They were married for 44 years before his passing Jan. 8, 1997, after a long battle with cancer.

Barbara worked as a dietary aide at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for several years.

One of Barbara's favorite pastimes was visiting the casino and playing the slot machines. She also had a special love for hummingbirds, was a devoted supporter of the UConn Huskies girls' basketball team, and found joy in crocheting.

Remaining to cherish Barbara's memory are her children, LeRoy Raymond Shaw Jr., his spouse Allan Howard, Brenda Jean Kelly, her spouse Donald Kelly, Jean Marie Shaw and Joan Marie Kovalik, her spouse Alfred Kovalik; grandchildren: Amy Parker, Michael Kelly, Tiffany Hewitt, Jill Drobiak, Jennifer LaVigne, Timothy Gray, Samantha Willard and Toni Costanzo; twenty great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; sister Paulette Shoemaker; and brother Jeffery Royal; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Barbara in death are her husband LeRoy Raymond Shaw Sr.; parents, Maurice and Irma Knapp Royal; brothers, Robert and Gregory Royal; sisters, Norma Keown, Donna Cyr and Sally Horten.

A funeral service will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Aug. 11, at Montville Funeral Home of Church & Allen on Route 32, followed by a funeral home service at noon with burial at Comstock Cemetery in Montville immediately after. Following the service, family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life at the Montville VFW Post 10060 on Raymond Hill Road.
