

Dennis R. Monahan,Sr. of Uncasville passed away on May 2, 2026. He was born on December 20, 1943, in New London, Connecticut. The middle son of the late Terence and Elmira (Eggleston) Monahan. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sharon E. Monahan, daughter, Dawn-Marie Turner, grandchildren Ashley Zabulis (Paul), Partick Monahan (Holly), Sarah Monahan and great granddaughter, Maebel Monahan. He is also survived by his brother Gerald Monahan (Deborah) and special friend, Bruce Tackling. He was predeceased by his two sons, Dennis R. Jr. (2007) and David W. Monahan (2003) and by his brother Terence M. Monahan, Jr.
Dennis graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1961 and the Connecticut Police Academy in 1970. He served with the Montville Police Department (MPD)for 28 years, retiring as a lieutenant in 1996. Dennis was the first constable to attend and graduate from the Police Academy, which served as a major steppingstone for future town officers. He graduated second in his class. He was instrumental in creating the first rules and regulations for the MPD, subsequently his work was utilized by other Connecticut towns to create their own standards. His service also included Union President, where he advocated to establish a retirement program for the Montville officers. Throughout his career, Dennis dedicated himself to the community establishing several programs that benefited the Town of Montville residents. One of his proudest moments was serving as the 2014 Parade Marshall for the Montville Memorial Day parade.
After retirement Dennis worked at the W.W. Backus Hospital Security and Traffic Control Department, where he created more efficient and safe transportation and parking regulations.
Dennis was well known for his Irish sense of humor. It was direct to the point and included his interpretation of his lived experiences.
Dennis spent part of his last day at home drinking his Coca-cola, eating his ice cream and watching his Yankees. Now he is one his way to join his sons, Dennis and David.
There will be no calling hours, and graveside services will be private. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
