May 11, 1955 - January 11, 2024
Dori Manville, 68 of Montville peacefully passed away Thursday January 11, 2024 with family by her side. Dori was born in Berea Ohio to Joseph Dumais and Barbara (Casey) Thompson . Dori fought cancer for three years, and she beat it. Unfortunately the treatments depleted her immune system and her body was not strong enough to overcome infection. We are deeply saddened with her loss and she will be forever missed.
She was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Barbara, seven unborn grandchildren and her own unborn child named Casey. Dori leaves behind her husband Gerry, children Matt (Alice) Manville and Jamie (Matt) Dudder and grandchildren Hendrix, Stella, Evangaline and Abel. Brothers David and Dean Dumais, Uncle Terrance Casey and step brothers Allan, Dennis, Wayne and Brian Carbee. She also leaves behind countless brothers and sister in laws, nieces and nephews and dear friends she loved like family.
Dori graduated from Montville Highschool in 1973 and two years later married the love of her life and best friend Gerry. They were happily married for 48 and a half years.
Dori worked at Electric boat as a computer technician before she left the workforce to raise her children at home, it was important to her and Gerry to be with their children while they were young. Dori was an incredible mom to Matt and Jamie. She was a devoted mother, she was at every baseball game, volleyball game , concert and competition her kids ever participated in. She volunteered alongside Gerry with the music boosters while the kids were in high school. She was "Mom" to many of the kids' friends as well, their home was always open. As they grew older she was more than just a Mom, she was a best friend.
Dori loved others and had a passion to serve. She and Gerry were involved in the WorldWide Marriage Encounter community for over 20 years. They served together as the executive couple for CT for three years. Strong God focused marriages were important to them, and it showed in their love for one another. Together they did premarital counseling with more than 100 engaged couples.
Dori loved being with her family, especially Gerry, you only had to be around them once to know they were inseparable. It didn't matter to her what they were doing, they were always side by side. Together they loved to cook, garden, fish out on the open ocean, watch the Red Sox play, take spur of the moment adventures and spend summer vacations in York Beach Maine with their kids and grandkids. Dori was the "G.O.A.T" Grammy (Greatest Of All Time- in the words of her grandkids). She loved them with all of her heart, she loved spending as much time with them as she could playing card games, baking, hosting sleepovers and movie nights with popcorn and snuggling on the couch... She spent many summers playing at the beach and jumping the waves with them, sledding down the hill in the winter and she was the best cheering section at little league baseball games. Her love of chocolate was passed on to her grandkids through shared dessert bites late at night and sneaked peppermint patty candies and milky ways....dark chocolate, always.
Dori loved her husband, children and grandchildren, but most of all she loved the Lord. She gave her life to Jesus and that is where she is now, she is no longer in pain and she is waiting for the rest of her family. We are devastated with her loss but we have nothing but loving memories with her. She will be forever missed.
In lieu of donations or flowers we would like you to remember Dori by some of her favorite things when you think of her: a good piece of dark chocolate, a glass of red wine, chocolate covered espresso beans, gerber daisies, mob movies, cheering on the Red Sox, walking on the beach and listening to the waves crash on the shore.
A memorial service will take Place on Tuesday April 2, 2024 at 11:00am at Seaport Community Church 28 Great Brook Rd, Groton, CT 06340
