Eugene C. Skidgel

July 17, 1946 – September 22, 2026

Eugene C. Skidgel, age 80, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2026. Born on July 17, 1946, Eugene lived a life defined by quiet strength, dedicated service, and deep love for his family and country.

A proud and honorable man, Eugene was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He served his country with distinction aboard the USS Fechteler (DD-870) and was honorably discharged on August 20, 1969.

Following his military service, Eugene continued his commitment to helping others, spending 20 years serving his community at the Bangor Mental Health Institute (BMHI) in Bangor, Maine, from which he eventually retired.

Eugene was predeceased by his beloved wife, Delores Skidgel, with whom he is now peacefully reunited.

He is survived by his two brothers, Wayne Skidgel of East Hartford, Connecticut, and Herman Fisher of Stockholm, Maine. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will fondly remember his warmth, kindness, and legacy of service.

Arrangements are under the care of the Montville Funeral Home of Church & Allen. Services will be held privately by the family to honor Eugene's remarkable life and military service.
