

George was born on October 23, 1926, the son of John J. and Ellen (Sherman) McCarthy and lived most of his life in Uncasville at 74 Roselund Hill . He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Mary T. (Walenczyk) McCarthy in 2008.
George served in the Army in WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946 . He was very active for years at the Montville Legion, Post 112 and was an honorary life member.
He was a communicant at St John's Church in Uncasville where he was very active in the Knights of Columbus and had a term as Grand Knight. He and Mary thoroughly enjoyed their years spent dancing as members of the Couple's Club at St John's.
He also enjoyed occasionally tending bar at the Polish Club in Montville.
George retired in 1983 from the Submarine Base in Groton where he was a Transportation Supervisor. After retiring, he worked at Goodwin Pontiac as a service writer for several years.
George is survived by his three children and their spouses, Kathleen Pickett and her husband Edward F. of Uncasville, Kevin McCarthy and his wife Darlene of Uncasville, Karen Pelletier and her husband John of Oakdale, three grandchildren, Candice Arcari and her husband Keith of Marlborough, Edward M. Pickett and his wife Nisha of Glastonbury, and K. Mathew McCarthy of Uncasville. He was blessed with 5 great grandchildren. He is also leaves his two brothers James and Eugene of Clinton Ct. and many nieces and nephews.
George was predeceased by his parents, his brother John J, his sisters Barbara O'Connor and Geraldine Lawrence and two nephews.
George’s family would like to thank the staff at Orchard Grove for their care and attention for the years he lived and was cared for there.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society or Catholic Charities.
Visitation will be held Sept. 7 at the Montville Funeral Home of Church and Allen from 5 to 7 PM. A shared mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St John's Church in Montville at 10:00 AM on Saturday Sept 8th.
The family will also celebrate the life of S. Kathryn (Walenczyk) Daniels of Miami Fla., George's sister in law who passed away Aug 1, 2008. There will be no procession from the funeral home to the church.
