

Killingworth- Gerald B. Hawkes (Jerry), 85, passed away on September 12, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. His family includes his wife Shirley of 59 years; four daughters and son-in-laws, Karen and Daniel McAvoy, Kathleen and Charles Imbergamo, Kimberly and Matthew Weidman, and Kelly and David Wasserman. Jerry was blessed with 11 grandchildren who adored him. He was the best grandfather to Kayla and her fiancé Jack Lynch, Sean and Meghan McAvoy; Alicia and Nathan Imbergamo; Erin, Benjamin, and Eric Weidman; and Ryan, Daniel, and Jenna Wasserman. Jerry is survived by his older brother, James Hawkes and his sister, Beverly Blondin and is pre-deceased by his brother, Raymond Hawkes.
Jerry was born and raised in New London, CT, the son of the late Walter and Doris (Bruce) Hawkes. Jerry and Shirley resided in Oakdale, CT, for 58 years where they raised their four daughters. Jerry served in the US Air Force and was employed by IBM for 31 years. Jerry enjoyed traveling and camping with his wife, daughters, and grandchildren, whether at local Hammonasset State Park, Bonita Springs, FL, or on road trips across the country. Jerry was known for his sense of humor, his sweet tooth, and his ability to tinker and fix almost anything.
Friends and family may call on Thursday, September 16, 2021, from 4:00-7:00 pm at Montville Funeral Home of Church and Allen, 53 Norwich New London Turnpike, Uncasville, CT 06382. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 17, 2021, at 10:00 am at Our Lady of the Lakes Church, 752 Norwich-Salem Turnpike, Oakdale, CT 06370. A private burial will be held on a later date. Due to Covid protocols, all in attendance are required to wear a mask.
