He was born in Norwich on Nov. 30, 1935 to the late Clinton B. and Edna (Barrows) Rogers. He attended N.F.A. and worked as a supervisor for N.E. Utilities, then CT Light & Power until his retirement. On Dec. 22, 1956 he married his beloved wife Theresa (LaCourse) at St. John Church in Uncasville, CT. They began their family and lived in Uncasville.
Jim, the consummate gentleman, was passionate about helping others throughout his life. As a result his life was encompassed in public service as a Montville Fire Chief, member of the CT Fire Chief’s Assoc., New London County Fire Chief’s Assoc., Civil Defense Director, Deputy Forrest Warden and was an American Red Cross Instructor throughout his life. Whether it was plowing someone’s driveway, mowing their lawn, or saving a life, Jim was always there. In addition to all this, he was still present as husband and father for his family whom he loved very much and who loved him in return.
Besides his wife, survivors include his son: James R. Rogers Jr., and wife Rosemarie, daughter; Betty Ann Heath and husband Fred, brothers; Daniel “Butch” and wife Lois, Francis “Gint” and wife Evelyn, sister; Patricia Soileau, grandchildren; Freddie Heath Jr. & wife Asucena, Heather Ladd & husband Steve, great-grandchildren; Dillion, Bella, Zavier, Tiana, Michael and Elizabeth, many nieces and nephews and countless friends.
Visitation is Wednesday from 5pm-9pm at the Montville Funeral Home of Church & Allen, 53 Norwich-New London Tnpk., Uncasville, CT. Funeral Services will be held Thursday at the funeral home at 11am immediately followed by burial at Union Cemetery.
