

Oakdale-Jennie A. (Kowalski) Sawchuk, age 88, passed away on February 11, 2011 at William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich. She was born on January 7, 1923 in Jewett City to the late Sylvester and Adele (Keriks) Kowalski. She married her late husband Edward Sawchuk on September 26, 1942 at St. Mary’s in Jewett City.
Jennie loved Polka dancing and cooking.
She is survived by a daughter Barbara Champion of Salem, a daughter Gloria Nelson and her husband Paul of Oakdale, a sister Wanda Kulos of Norwich and a brother Steven Kowalski of Jewett City. She also leaves behind her grandchildren John Champion, Cindy Sudol, Thomas Champion, Chris Nelson, Deborah Frezer, Jennifer Loher, and great grandchildren Tyler Sudol, and Dylan Sudol. She will also be missed by her caregiver, who kept a watchful eye over her, Valerie Johnson.
Besides her loving husband Edward, Jennie is predeceased by brothers Michael, Alex, John and Phil Kowalski and sisters Helen Skorupski and Julia Trudelle.
Family and friends may visit the Montville Funeral Home of Church and Allen, 63 Norwich New London Turnpike, Uncasville on Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lakes Church in Oakdale.
