Mom served her family and community throughout her life, leaving wholesome and beautiful memories for all who knew her to cherish and hold dear. She was a woman of valor, with great faith, and loved everyone she met.
Years ago, raising four girls on her own, she led by example, showing her girls how to be strong, loving and independent women. With Mom having little means, she still brought in those that needed a meal. Stretching her dollar, she bought clothing and opened her home to those that needed a place to stay.
Mom last worked for the Town of Montville and loved the Senior Citizens of Montville. Seniors were never alone on a holiday and never without food to eat in their own homes either. Serving the elders of Montville was her proudest career accomplishment.
Marrying the love of her life 25 years ago and, because of him, finally knowing true love and all that that entails was one of Gods greatest gifts to her. With that gift also came the blessing of another little girl to raise. Brittany gave Mom the ability to do it all over again. If you knew Mom, you would know that babies and children were her greatest joy!
In 2010 she retired from the Town of Montville to care for her mother-in-law Nettie, and spent years with her until her passing. Mom then fully engaged in “Nana Life” and enjoyed her family and friends. Spending time with friends Ann, Anita, Pat, Kathy, Judy, Gail and Ruthie among many others, were always full of excitement, love and joy for Mom.
Mom always said, “If you do good things, God will take care of you.” That has proven to be true: never forgetting her family or friends, never losing full physical capabilities and still, at the end, being able to give her famous hugs and kisses before going home to be with the Lord.
Mom was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Valentine Engel; her brother, David Engel; and several other family members. Her close friend Frank Suarez and best friend since kindergarten, Paula Ferland met her at Heaven’s Gate with their dancing shoes on and ready to celebrate her homecoming. And waiting there off to the side with open arms were her close friend Harriet Kashar along with daughter Stacie, to hug her and thank her for the wonderful job she did.
Surviving Mom are her loving and dedicated husband, Marc Kashar. Her children, Melissa Velasquez, Amie Sonnichsen, Jennifer (Chris) Spencer, Julie (Jose) Perry and Brittany (Robert) Kashar, and Edwin Perry, Sr. Her grandchildren Jessica Velasquez, Peyton (Daniel)
Edwards, Carter Velasquez, Edwin Perry, Jr., Alexander Velasquez Kayleen Small. And lastly, her great-granddaughter Anastasia Velasquez- Murray.
Also surviving Mom are Shannon Parenteau-Main and Trang Ly- Butova who enhanced Mom’s beauty for decades! Mom loved them as family and family they are!
A celebration of her life will be held Saturday February 8, 2025 from 3-5pm at the Montville funeral home of Church & Allen; per Mom’s wishes, burial will be private.
Donations can be made to the Mohegan Fire Department in thanks for all the care, patience, and attention they provided our family in recent months. Donations may also be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, honoring the beauty of giving in Mom’s memory.
Mom sends her love.
