Mary (Wyatt) Whitehead, 94, passed away peacefully on March 22 in Mystic, CT surrounded by her loved ones.
Mary was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA to Thomas Wyatt and Loretta (Pashak) Wyatt. She was the youngest of 6 children. She was predeceased by her siblings, Margaret, Florence “Floss”, Elizabeth “Babe”, Nelson and Henry “Hank”.
She met and married her husband, Columbus “Jim” Whitehead on Sept. 21,1951, in Media, PA. As a military wife, she proudly supported her husband’s Navy career. Mom was always known for her patriotic spirit.
Mom was a friendly, outgoing and sociable person. She enjoyed many activities including oriental wall tile art, ceramics, gardening, bowling and country line dancing. As a member of the Montville Senior Center, for a number of years, Mom enjoyed being the official photographer, capturing all the fun events and smiling faces.
Among her favorite jobs was working for American Greetings and Hallmark. She worked for many years, both at the Submarine Base and various area stores.
She is survived by her two daughters, Kelly Ann Zahaba and Sharon Jean Martin. Two sons-in-law, Don Zahaba and Bill Martin. Three grandchildren, Kendra Sackash and her husband Mark, Kristen Yoquelet and her husband Chandler, Tyler Martin and his wife Ashlyn.
Four great-grandchildren, Kaelyn and Kellyn Sackash and Aidan and Greyson Yoquelet.
Visitation will be held Monday March 31, 2025 from 10:00am -11:00am at the Montville Funeral Home of Church and Allen 53 Norwich New London Tpke. Uncasville. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am on March 31, 2025 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery Norwich.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or DAV, Disabled American Veterans.
