Montville – Paula (Arsenault) Mallory, 71, of Oakdale, wife of Jerald L Mallory, passed away Sunday, Dec. 26, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. Paula was born April 2, 1950, in Chelsea, MA, the daughter of the late Francis and Josephine (Wojciechowski) Arsenault.
Paula leaves behind her husband of 52 years Jerry; her son, Adam Mallory and his wife Sarah of Columbia; her son, Aaron Mallory and his wife Danielle of Salem and her son, Alex Mallory of Windham. She also leaves behind her 5 grandchildren, Lilly, Zane, Maddox, Charles and Harrason, who knew her as their Mema and were the center of her world. She was also the loving sister to 11 and Auntie to many nieces and nephews.
Paula met Jerry in the summer of 1968 in Boston after he had spent a weekend SCUBA diving in Cape Cod due to his deployment aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt being cut short. At that time, Paula was working for an optical glass company in Chelsea, Ma where she was living. A year and a half later, they were married on December 20, 1969. Paula moved with Jerry up and down the east coast while he was enlisted in the Navy and eventually settled in Montville, CT in 1984 to start their family.
They welcomed their first son Adam in April 1984, shortly followed by Aaron in July 1985, and Alex in September 1987. Paula was an enthusiastic fan and supporter of her kids and their sports, and many times had to figure out how to get 3 kids to different places at the same time. She could often be found running up and down the sidelines at soccer games at Camp Oakdale or in the stands at the baseball field cheering on her kids and their friends. In the early 2000’s when she wasn’t able to attend, Paula would eagerly wait at home with the families beloved sheltie Casey for Jerry and the boys to return home from dirt bike races. She was always excited to hear about how well they did and the stories that they would come home with.
She was employed by the Montville Board of Education, where she formed many lasting relationships with both faculty and students. She would retire in 2012 after over 15 years of service. In retirement Paula enjoyed being with her children and especially her grandchildren. More recently, she spent many weekends attending dirt bike races her grandkids were competing in, spending precious time with her family, and making many memories. One of Mema’s favorite things to do was to spoil her grandchildren with gifts, especially at Christmas time. Paula will be missed deeply and her memory will be carried by all the people she loved.
Visitation will be Thursday January 20, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. , and will be held at the Montville Funeral Home of Church and Allen.
A graveside funeral will be held Friday January 21st at 11:00 AM at Elm Grove Cemetery in Mystic’.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the NETRA Scholarship Fund, checks made payable to New England Trail Rider Association with Scholarship Fund in the memo, PO BOX 329 Middleboro, MA 02346.
