Philip M. Eakin

He was born on May 1, 1959, in Washington, PA. Phil grew up in Antioch, CA before moving with his family to Connecticut in 2005. He spent much of his career as a Millwright at Dow Chemical before retiring. A proud organ transplant recipient and survivor, Phil lived life with resilience, gratitude, and a deeply generous heart.

Phil was a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan, loved animals, and above all, was a devoted family man who cherished the time spent with those he loved most. He had a selfless spirit, and he made sure the people he loved knew just how much they meant to him. He never let a phone call end or a goodbye be said without saying, “I love you” - a simple gesture that meant so much and will be cherished always.

He is survived by his loving wife, Amy Eakin; his children and their families: Joshua (Amanda), Erica Joy (Jason); and Amanda Faith (Eric). He is also survived by his brothers, Shan (Lucinda), Mark (Angie), Kim (Michele) as well as many dear nieces and nephews. He was a loving grandfather to Kasen, Alaina, Olivia, Bennett, Lillian and a baby on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Phil’s greatest legacy will be the unconditional love he gave to his family. His strength, sense of humor, and unwavering love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. While his absence will be deeply felt, his family will carry forward the love, laughter, and countless memories that made him so special.

Phil’s family extends their heartfelt appreciation to everyone who was part of his transplant journey, especially the compassionate doctors, nurses, and staff at the Yale New Haven Transplantation Center and Ochsner Transplant Institute. Their dedication and care gave Phil the gift of more memories with the people he loved most, and for that, his family will always be grateful. They also extend gratitude to Phil’s donor and donor family, whose extraordinary gift made that additional time possible and will forever be a cherished part of his story.
