

After attending New London High School, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was the editor of the naval base newspaper in Trinidad for two years, then spent 2 years on the USS Glacier transporting troops to Antarctica. After serving in the Navy, Bob worked at the Hartford National Bank until he was employed at Pfizer for 36 years. After retirement, Bob volunteered at St. John’s bingo for many years. He also delivered bread and pastries to Thames River Community Service, Norwich soup kitchen, Montville Senior Center, and volunteered for Catholic Charities Food Bank. Bob was the Vice President of the Montville Senior Center for five years and then served on the Board of Directors. He also worked for local caterers.
Bob and his wife enjoyed traveling to Matunuck, RI and Fort Myers, FL.
Bob is survived by his wife of 67 years, Barbara (Lacombe), daughter Julianne Sopczak and husband Andrew, son Robert Jr., and daughter Jennifer Adamson and husband Jeffrey. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Melody, Reagan, Olivia, Mckenzie, Dylan, and Peyton and a great-granddaughter Eevee. He will be greatly missed by friends and family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 29th at 10 AM at St. John Church, 22 Maple Ave., Uncasville, CT. Full military honors will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, 815 Boswell Ave., Norwich, CT. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
