Robert Blanchette lived 90 remarkable years, and while his time on earth has come to an end, the love he gave will never fade. He was, simply put, the best grandpa anyone could ask for.
A die-hard New England sports fan, Robert’s loyalty knew no bounds. He could and happily would watch the same game over and over, reliving every play as if it were happening for the first time. His passion was legendary, his commentary unforgettable, and his joy unmistakable.
More than sports, Robert’s greatest pride was his family. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Gloria Blanchette, with whom he shared 67 years of marriage! A true partnership built on love, laughter, and commitment.
He was a proud father to Douglas Blanchette, Stephen Blanchette, and Pamela Norris, and a cherished grandfather to Shannon Santini, Melissa Blanchette, Nicole Sprecher, Ashley Norris, Jeffrey Norris, Robert Blanchette,Destiny Blanchette and Zachary Norris.
Robert’s heart only grew larger with each generation. He adored his great-grandchildren — Joshua Laravie-Blanchette, Jordyn Laravie-Blanchette, Payton Laravie-Blanchette, Matthew Santini, Hannah Brock, Nathan Blanchette, Mason Blanchette, Lilyana Eckert, Alexander Sprecher, and David Sprecher — and was blessed to welcome his great-granddaughter, Luna Blanchette, whose presence brought him immense joy.
He will forever be remembered as the grandpa who taught his grandchildren how to swim, who loved deeply and openly, and who always answered an “I love you” with his signature reply: “Me too.” A man with a wonderful sense of humor, Robert loved to joke and make others laugh, leaving smiles wherever he went.
Ninety years may sound like a long life, but it never feels like enough when someone is so deeply loved. What lasts forever is the kindness he showed, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave so freely. Robert Blanchette leaves behind a family forever changed by his presence and forever grateful for the time they had with him.
His love was infinite — and it always will be.
A graveside service will be held at Maplewood Cemetery, located at 184 Salem Turnpike, Norwich, CT, on January 9, 2026, starting at 11:00 am.
