Roger joined the U.S. Navy in February of 1963, where he eventually served as a Second Class Petty Officer, Fire Control Technician (Ballistic Missile) during the Vietnam War, serving nearly 7 years and earning his National Defense Service Medal. He later served his community as a Volunteer Firefighter in Montville for Mohegan Fire Company for over 20 years.
His first son, Roger S. Kaufmann Jr., was born October 18, 1969. He eventually married Heidi Hall on February 2, 1985 and had four children; Sean, Dorothy, Jason, and Matthew.
Roger was an avid reader and sports enthusiast. He will be fondly remembered for his quick wit, diligent work ethic, and kind heart.
He is survived by his sister; Brenda Jarmusch, his five children; Roger, Sean, Dorothy, Jason, and Matthew, and his six grandchildren.
Calling hours for Roger will be held on Friday, August 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Montville Funeral Home of Church & Allen, 53 Norwich-New London Turnpike, Uncasville, CT. Military honors will follow the calling hours.
