Uncasville-Ronald Edward Dombrowski, age 80, of Uncasville, passed away peacefully in the morning hours of April 2, 2024. He was born in New London on July 6, 1943 to the late Walter and Mildred (Pinkowitz) Dombrowski. Better known as “Ronnie” to his friends and family, he was a resident of Connecticut his entire life. Ron was honorably discharged from the military, serving in the Air Force from 1961 to 65, as a Military Police Officer. He was stationed at Loring Air Force Base for the duration of his term of service.
Ronald owned and operated R.E.D. Enterprises, a Contracting Business, for over 40 years. He was a skilled tradesman who was always striving to learn new skills and techniques to utilize within a constantly evolving industry. He was always willing to lend a helping hand where or whenever needed, and was respected by his peers and employees.
Ron was also a seasoned woodsman who loved nature and the outdoors and enjoyed sharing these experiences with whoever cared to join him. He was particularly fond of deer and turkey hunting, and spent countless hours traversing the woods and fields of southeastern CT. Ronnie also loved to fish with his wife, family and friends. He was always quick with a joke or a laugh which was a huge part of his charm for all that knew and loved him.
He was active in recovery and unselfishly shared his experience, strength and hope, which helped many people throughout his 31 years of sobriety.
As an avid competitive runner, and active member of the Mohegan Striders, Ronnie competed in many road races across New England. He could often be seen training, running the roads of Uncasville and surrounding towns regularly, oftentimes many miles from home. He also qualified to represent Connecticut 5 separate years and competed nationally in the Senior Olympic Games across many states. Ron was proud of the countless awards and trophies earned from his passion and love for running.
Throughout his life, Ron also enjoyed many different hobbies and interests, including, but not limited to, bowling, golf, car racing, poker, an avid sports fan, volunteering his time for “Hunters for the Hungry” & as the coordinator & head chef of the game dinner at the Pearl Harbor Masters Road Race for well over 20 years. Ronnie was very fond of vegetable gardening and horticulture as a whole, and loved traveling with his wife. One of his many quotes was “You plant the flowers and I'll grow the vegetables”.
He is survived by his loving wife Nancy (Valenti) Dombrowski of Uncasville to whom he was married to for 42 years, a son Robert Hancock of Gales Ferry, two biological sons Edward and Steven Isenberg, a grandson, Evan Hancock, who affectionately referred to him as “Jadgie”, along with many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a brother Walter Dombrowski and a sister Judith (Dombrowski) George.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday April 28th. at 1:00 PM, Montville V.F.W. 91 Raymond Hill Rd.,Uncasville, CT 06382. This is a casual event meant to truly celebrate his life and reminisce.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ronald’s honor to The Southeastern Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc. (SCADD), 321 Main St., Norwich CT. The family is also accepting donations to help offset cost of services.
Burial will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.
