Ruth K. Kilburn

Ruth K. Kilburn, 94, of Uncasville, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2023, at the William W. Backus Hospital. Ruth was born in Plainfield, July 20, 1928, the daughter of the late Albert V. Korab and Ruth (Linford) Korab.

She married Leonard W. Kilburn Sr. Feb. 23, 1952, in Norwich. He predeceased her in 1988. Ruth was a 1946 graduate of Norwich Free Academy and was employed at Saint Bernard School in Uncasville, for 55 years. She was a communicant of Saint John’s Church in Uncasville, and a member of the Rosary Altar Society and Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. She was a member of the National Secretaries Association and enjoyed volunteering at the Backus Hospital gift shop for many years. Ruth was an avid knitter and loved sharing her creations with family and friends.

She is survived by her son Leonard W. Kilburn Jr. (Angelique); daughter Catherine A. Thomas (Garry); grandson Jeremy L. Thomas (Johanny); great-granddaughter Jyana L. Thomas; sister Theresa Hunt-Meyers; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 17, at St. John’s Church, 22 Maple Avenue, Uncasville. Entombment will follow at St. Mary Mausoleum, 600 Jefferson Avenue, New London. Donations in Ruth’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105.
