Theresa "Topsy" Butova

Topsy was born on December 19, 1927 in New London, CT, the daughter of William Nye and Lillian Nye (Landry). She graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1946.

Theresa married Peter H. Butova, settling down in Uncasville, CT where they eventually raised their two children, Peter and James Butova.

Topsy worked in the Montville High School Cafeteria for nearly 40 years, well into her 80’s, and enjoyed every minute of it with the students and staff of the school.

Theresa enjoyed sports of all kinds, especially the New York Giants, the Boston Red Sox and most importantly, anything UCONN.

Topsy was predeceased by much of her family and was the last of her generation. She leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews, her daughter-in-law Martha, and her cherished grandson, Christopher (Alyssa), who will carry forward her memory and the love she shared with her family.

Calling Hours will be held at Montville Funeral Home of Church & Allen 53 Norwich-New London Tnpk, Uncasville on Thursday, March 12, 2026 from 5-7pm. A Private Burial will be held for the family at their convenience.
