We regretfully announce that Valorie Lee McNatt (nee Hollo), (70) of East Lyme, CT, passed away surrounded by her loved ones on May 15, 2024. Valorie had a difficult battle with cancer and is finally at rest. She will be forever loved and remembered.
Valorie was born October 30, 1953 at Sealand Royal Air Force Base in England to Major Stephen E. Hollo and Ruth L. Rumrill, the fifth of seven children. Her childhood took her from England to Maine and Japan on various Air Force posts before settling in Oakdale, Connecticut where she graduated from Montville High School. Valorie was an active member of the Marching and Jazz Bands.
She met the love of her life, Eugene, in 1987 while working at Millstone. They were married and welcomed their daughter, Megan, in 1988 and their son, Ian, in 1993.
Valorie spent many years volunteering at her children’s schools – in the library, nurse’s offices, for field trips; and was also a Cub Scout den leader. While she held various positions throughout her life, her favorite job after retiring was becoming a grandmother and she loved her grandchildren with all her heart.
She is predeceased by her father and mother; sisters, Ruth & Sandra; and brother, Stephen. Surviving her are her devoted husband, Eugene; two children Megan (Bobby) and Ian; two beautiful grandchildren, Natalee and Logan; brother, Frank (Susan); sisters, Mary and Teresa (Franklin); and dozens of nieces and nephews.
Valorie was a kind, caring and giving person who put the needs of her family before her own. She was full of love and joy, and made everyone who knew her feel like family, even after just a single meeting. She also loved to cook and regularly made fudge, jam, and jelly to gift to loved ones.
Valorie was a long-time member of Bishop Seabury Anglican Church and throughout her tenure she served on the vestry, led a bible study, and served as a prayer partner. She was a strong woman of unwavering faith who faced every challenge with courage and dignity.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to a charity close to your heart, in her honor.
Although Valorie is no longer with us here on Earth, we take comfort in knowing she's looking down on us from above. Let's thank God together for a life well lived.
A Christian funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 3rd, beginning at 10:30am (NOTE THIS IS AN UPDATED TIME) at Bishop Seabury Anglican Church in Gales Ferry.
Bishop Seabury Anglican Church is located at 6 HURLBUTT RD, GALES FERRY, CT 06335.
There is additional parking across the street at the Gales Ferry Landing, on the back row of CVS, and across Route 12 in the Big Lots shopping center.
We want to showcase Valorie’s love for colors and patterns to celebrate her life. Guests are encouraged to wear reds, purples, florals, and plaids, if they feel comfortable. She would want everyone to wear what they feel best and most comfortable in and not limit themselves to just wearing black. Let’s have a sea of colors.
Following the church service, we will be hosting an open house-style "Celebration of Life" to share memories of Valorie. You are invited to stop in and join us anytime between 1pm and 4pm at the Pilot House at Ocean Beach Park. Please come and go as you feel comfortable. Light refreshments will be served. A cash bar will be available. (At the entrance gate just tell them you are there for the Celebration of Life Event so there will be no charge for parking)
We look forward to celebrating the life and memories of Valorie with you.
