

Lisbon- On Tuesday November 23, Wilfred L. Manville, surrounded by his children, said goodbye to his family here on Earth and went home to be with the Lord and to re-unite with the love of his life Rosemarie (Gately) after a long battle with cancer. Wilfred was 87 years old, born January 6, 1923. He is predeceased by his parents Leo O. and Anna (Boska) Manville and his younger brother Louis Manville. Wilfred is survived by brothers Leo (Meriden) and Edmund (Uncasville).
Wilfred leaves behind eight children: Linda Barton (Norwich), Gerard Manville (Montville), Timothy Manville (Lisbon), Marc Manville (Griswold), Jeanne Mikula (Griswold), Daniel Manville (Montville), Bryan Manville (Oakdale) and Maryann Gatheral (Lisbon), with whom he was cared for and resided with since 2009. He has twelve grandchildren and three great grandsons. He is also remembered by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Wilfred is a veteran of World War II. He joined the United States Army in 1943 at the age of 19. He was a member of the then famed 350th Infantry Regiment, which took Mount Battaglia in Italy and held it for seven days of continuous close quarter fighting against German counter-attacks. Fighting for his country he received several medals including the Purple Heart, Good Conduct and The Distinguished Unit Badge.
After receiving an honorable discharge from the Army he met and married Rosemarie Gately in1948. Wilfred worked for 44 years at CL&P to provide for his family in Montville, where he and Rosemarie raised their eight children on Sharp Hill.
He was a fitness buff, and had a love for bowling, and passed it down through the generations of Manville's. Each and everyday he could be found throwing strikes with his friends, laughing and competing with his children and grandchildren at The Norwich Ten Pin.
Calling hours will be at The Montville Funeral Home of Church and Allen on Sunday, November 28th from 5-7:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Johns Church on Maple Avenue in Montville on Monday, November 29th at 11:00am meeting directly at church. Burial will immediately follow at Saint Patrick's Cemetery in Uncasville where Wilfred will be remembered by his family and honored as a WWII Veteran.
