

Lewis H. Jenkins, 92, of Burlington, passed away at his home with his family surrounding him on Friday, December 27, 2013. He was a good, honest and committed Christian man who liked everyone that he met. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who ‘loved’ his family deeply. Lewis enjoyed hunting, fishing, and following the Detroit Tiger’s and NASCAR.
Lewis was born August 24, 1921 in Albion to Vern C. and Adeline (Morrill) Jenkins. He married Phyllis L. Shroll on May 15, 1947 in Albion. She survives.
Lewis lived in the Burlington and Union City area most of his life. He served his country during WWII in the Navy. Lewis also served his community with the Burlington Fire Department for 25 years with 5 of those years as Chief. He also was the bus supervisor for Tekonsha Schools. Lewis will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Mr. Jenkins is survived by his wife, Phyllis Jenkins, son; Charles L. Jenkins, daughter; Sharon (Charles) Palmer, son; Michael (Rita) Jenkins, 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 11 great great grandchildren, two sisters; Joyce Fitts & Brenda and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother; Claudia O'Brien, sister; Lucille Owens, two brothers; Russell & Lloyd Jenkins, two daughters; Janet Mahrle and Laura Jones, 2 grandchildren; Myron Mahrle, Catherine Mahrle, and 1 great granddaughter, Rosemary Whitcomb.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with one hour of visitation prior to the service at the Burlington Church of God with Pastor Phil Palmer and Pastor David Rails officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Tekonsha with a military service.
