February 24, 1938 – July 19, 2019
Mary Govic of Union City, NJ passed away Friday, July 19, 2019 at the age of 81. Loving mother of Sandra Mary Govic and her husband Branko Vrcic. Dearest grandmother of Jonathan and Victoria Presser. Mary grew up in New York City and was the Executive Secretary to the President of Eastern Railroad. Both her husband Vlado Walter and her eldest daughter Rosemarie Josephine predeceased her in 1995 and 2003. A loving and doting mother to Sandra and the late Rosemarie. Mary will always be remembered for her bighearted ways and deep devotion to her family and faith. One of her greatest pleasures in life was indulging her two grandchildren with her baking, cooking and summers in Croatia. She was devoted to her community and extended family. There was hardly a Croatian organization that she and her late husband Vlado were not a member of; Sts. Cyrils and Methodius & St. Raphael Church and Choir, Kolo Group Kardinal Stepinac, Alma Croatia and Kralj Tomislav CFU Lodge 1990 where she served as former secretary. Mary and Vlado together opened their hearts and home to help their extended family and hundreds of people in need within their community throughout the years. They gave countless hours of their time to help those less fortunate and they did it all with a great big smile. Mary made the most of her life both in good times and bad. She was a kind, generous person who always helped others in need. Now at the end of her life we call on family and close friends to join her daughter and grandchildren in a private viewing on Friday, July 26, 2019 from 4-8 PM at Leber Funeral Home, 2000 John F Kennedy Blvd., Union City, NJ. On Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 9:00 AM the funeral from the Leber Funeral Home where mass will follow at Sts. Cyrils & Methodius & St. Rafael Croatian Catholic Church, 502 W 41st Street, New York, NY. Interment at St. Anthony Cemetery in Nanuet, NY. In lieu of flowers donations to Croatian Church NYC- Sts. Cyrils & Methodius & St. Raphael and/or Croatian Fraternal Union Scholarship Foundation for the Vlado Govic Scholarship Fund, 100 Delaney Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15235, would be greatly appreciated.
