Allen A. Horak

Allen A. Horak, age 89, of Union, New Jersey passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at Colonial Manor at Panther Valley in Hackettstown, New Jersey. He was born on September 9, 1935, in Summit, New Jersey to the late Anthony and Iva (née Lance) Horak.

Allen proudly served his country in the United States Navy on the USS Tarawa from 1958 to 1961. He worked at the United States Postal Service in Union, NJ for 43 years.

Allen enjoyed being active, hitting golf balls and tennis balls at the park, riding his bike, and taking daily walks. He enjoyed bowling and playing pool at the Union Senior Citizens Center. He loved attending summer jazz concerts in parks all over Central New Jersey. His fondest hobby, however, was gardening. He would always have a bumper crop of Jersey tomatoes and many other vegetables.

Allen was best known as “Uncle Allen” to his family who enriched his life in so many ways. He enjoyed watching his nephew Glenn, and nieces Donna and Diann, grow up. He also was a cherished Great Uncle for his grandnephews and grandnieces. His family brought him so much joy, and as much as he loved us all, we all deeply loved him and cared for him in the same way.

Allen is predeceased by his father, Anthony Horak, his mother, Iva Horak, his sister Marilyn (Horak) Prinz, and his nephew Glenn Prinz. He is survived by his nieces, Donna (Prinz) O’Brien and partner John Capettini, Diann Prinz-Carrajat and husband James Carrajat, grandnephews Andy O’Brien, Tim O’Brien, Daniel O’Brien, and Jeff Carrajat, and grandnieces, Alice (O’Brien) Jacobson, Michelle (Carrajat) Littwin, and Lizzy O’Brien.

Allen’s relatives and friends are invited to visit the McCracken Funeral Home at 1500 Morris Ave, Union, New Jersey on Wednesday September 10, 2025, from 11:00am - 1:00pm. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday September 10, 2025, at 1:00pm followed by interment at the Hollywood Memorial Park, Union, New Jersey.
