1923 - 2018
TINTON FALLS - Anne V. Ferri, 94, peacefully passed away on November 14, 2018, at Seabrook Village in Tinton Falls, NJ, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 11, 1923 in Elizabeth, NJ, the youngest of five children. She was also the smallest in the family, which might be the reason she was also the strongest willed and spunkiest of the group. Anne passed on the same day, and within the same hour as her husband, Gustave L. Ferri, 26 years before.
Anne was a devout Catholic and an active member of churches where she lived and prayed for her family and friends daily. In her lifetime she lived in North Leominster, MA, Westfield, NJ, Toms River, NJ, and Barefoot Bay, FL. She summered in Manasquan, NJ, and Lake Ossipee, NH and enjoyed traveling with her husband. Raised in Elizabeth, NJ, she was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School and Drake Business College. She was a wife, mother, homemaker and in her first job as an executive secretary for Grumman Aircraft Engineering she met her husband Gus who was designing planes for the war effort. Later on in life she was an Assistant Deputy Court Clerk for the Township of Cranford, NJ, and in her retirement she enthusiastically volunteered for the Treasure Shoppe and the Welcoming Committee of Seabrook Village. She was known for her culinary skills especially for her pies, roasts and Italian food; she was an organizer extraordinaire, adept mathematician, dancer, reader and card player. Anne’s energy and drive was legendary; younger friends often had difficulty keeping up with her. Her thrifty ways and her financial savvy allowed her to invest wisely affording all her children advanced educations. She possessed an extraordinary memory, recalling her family history in amazing detail till the end of her life. Anne was always the person that remembered everyone’s birthday and anniversary with a thoughtful card and note.
She was predeceased by Gustave L. Ferri, her beloved husband of 47 years, and her hard-working Irish immigrant parents, Thomas and Mary Green; sisters Katherine and Mary, and brothers John and Dennis ‘Biz’ Green. Surviving are her four children, Rita A. Ferri, husband Joseph F. Narkevitz of Goleta, CA; Richard T. Ferri, wife Stefany A. Ferri of Santa Fe, NM; Dr. Raymond M. Ferri, wife Gail W. Ferri of Cary, NC, and Lisa M. Ferri, husband James C. Edwards of Brooklyn, NY. Grandchildren are Kimara S. Vann, Catherine E., husband Matthew Venditti, Lianne K. and Morgan E. Ferri, Madeline F. and Griffin C. Edwards, two great-grandchildren Matthew J. Jr. and Irene R. Venditti; and many loving nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, her family requests that donations in Anne Ferri’s memory be made to: Seabrook Scholars Fund or Seabrook Resident Care Fund at Seabrook Village, 3000 Essex Rd., Tinton Falls, NJ 07753. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of her life in the Spring of 2019 at St. Michael’s Church, Cranford, N.J.
Condolences may be sent to The Ferri Family, c/o Rita Ferri, 216 Hillview Drive, Goleta, CA. 93117.
