

Nan was born in Elizabeth, NJ and resided in Newark most of her life. She graduated from Saint Mary of the Assumption High School, Elizabeth in 1955. She then attended St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing, Orange where she graduated in 1958. Nan then achieved her BSN from Seton Hall University, South Orange in 1965.
Nan was the head nurse of labor and delivery at St. Michael’s Hospital, Newark and an instructor at Seton Hall University. She also worked at Elizabeth General Medical Center, Children’s Specialized Hospital, and at Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield, before her retirement in 2008. She was also a member of the Forest Hill Field Club, Bloomfield for over 50 years. Nan will be remembered for her love of dogs and as a cherished sister, aunt, and friend. She suffered from metastatic colon cancer, and the family would like others to take action and get a colonoscopy, as it is a preventable illness.
Beloved wife of the late Arthur J. Ruccia MD. Loving sister of Patricia M. O’Leary and her husband Timothy N. and sister-in-law of Frank W. Fay. Dear Aunt of Patricia A. Fay Schmittler and her husband Joseph A, Gary Ruccia, Donna R. Thompson, and Cheryl Iannarella. She is predeceased by her parents Cornelius P. and Mary E. Heffernan, and her sister Eileen F. Fay. She is also survived by many great- nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place on Friday, November 7th from 3-8 PM at McCracken Funeral Home, 1500 Morris Ave., Union NJ. A funeral mass will be offered on Saturday, November 8th at Holy Spirit Church, Union at 10:30 AM, with entombment to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Newark.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Nan’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105.
