As a young boy, Canes was raised by his cousin Madeline Labidou in Jacmel, where he grew up surrounded by his cousins. During these years, he also learned Spanish and became well-versed in the language.
After completing high school in Jacmel, Canes furthered his education in Port-au-Prince, where he attended aviation school. In time, he transitioned to the United States, where he met his former wife, Mona Bernard. Together, they built a family with three children: Sabine Jean, Stanley Bernard, and Pascale Bernard.
Canes found joy in the simple things. He loved sharing laughter with family and friends, telling stories, and bringing lightheartedness to those around him. His peaceful nature and sense of humor will be cherished by all who knew him. Above all, he will be remembered as a devoted father and as someone who loved to help others.
His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. He is survived by his children, Sabine Jean, Stanley Bernard (Sharifa Bernard), and Pascale Bernard, and by his beloved grandchildren, Olivia Bernard, Noah Bernard, and Summer Jean.
