Carlo was born in Brooklyn, New York, on September 12, 1944, to Patricia Galderisi and Charles Imperato. Growing up in Brooklyn held some of Carlo’s favorite memories, playing stickball, football, and handball with dozens of friends. He lived in Park Slope in an 8-family house full of friends that became family.
After graduating from high school, he joined the NYPD, where he served in several precincts in Brooklyn over 20 years. He made headlines in 1973 when he and his brother Vincent were ambushed and shot in their patrol car in Brownsville.
He married Maryann DiGirolomo in 1985 and welcomed their son Andrew the following year. Carlo took his job of Mr. Mom very seriously and was very active in his son’s life, creating a unique bond.
Seeing Andrew find his love Lizbeth and becoming a father in 2023 with the birth of his son Alessandro was Carlo’s greatest joy.
He was passionate about his country, his heritage, his family, history, celebrations, and bringing people together around the table, eating and laughing. He enjoyed hunting for many years, along with gardening and reading. He loved being outdoors and walking on the beach early in the morning.
He was fiercely protective of his family and friends and welcomed all to his house and table. Carlo is survived by his wife Maryann, his son Andrew and fiancée Lizbeth, his grandson Alessandro, his brothers Vincent and wife Michaelina, Richard and wife Denise, his stepbrother Rudy and wife Barbara, along with many loving sisters and brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews.
Andrew, Liz, Alessandro and I will miss his love and compassion, his humor and endless stories.
He was our hero!
