Charles Warren Berry, 90, of Union, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 11, 2019. A longtime resident of Union, N.J., he was married to his beloved wife Alice (nee Abrolat) for 65 years.
Charles was born in Milwaukee, WI and moved to Union in 1936. He served as photographer in the U.S. Army. He joined the Union Police force and retired as Deputy Chief after 40 years in 1990. He was credited for bringing in the first computer into the department. Upon retirement he enjoyed travel, golf, spending time with his family and continued with his interest of electronics. Charles was an active member of the Freemasons and was a member of the Gavel-Loyalty Lodge no. 33 in Union and also a member of the Union Elks, serving on the Special Needs Children’s committee for many years.
Charles was the loving husband of Alice, devoted father to Susan Brodziak and her husband, Philip, and Ronald Berry and his wife, Doreen. He was the adored grandfather of Laura Brodziak, Christopher Berry and Taylor Berry. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Charles was predeceased by his parents Warren and Ruth Berry and his brother Richard.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 from 3:00-7:00 PM at the McCracken Funeral Home, 1500 Morris Avenue, Union, N.J. Burial will be private.
