She made her home for 20 years in Franklin Township in Hunterdon County, NJ. Previously, she and her husband Norman S. Nolan, MD had made their home in Middletown, in Monmouth County, NJ for 38 years.
Diane was born on October 21, 1939 in St. Mary’s Hospital, Orange, NJ and grew up in Vailsburg, Newark, and Short Hills, NJ. Diane was a proud alumna of MaryLawn of the Oranges High School in South Orange, and Pratt Institute of Fine Art in New York, where she majored in Fine Art and illustration and received a BA in Fine Art.
After graduation, Diane married her long-time sweetheart Norman S. Nolan, and they purchased their first home in Monmouth County, in Middletown, NJ. Norman was already employed as an Electrical Engineer in nearby Bell Labs in Holmdel. Diane was also employed in Holmdel but at the newly opened Lily-Tulip Container Corporation, as a packaging designer. Twelve years later, the Art Department was relocated to Springfield, Missouri. Choosing not to relocate, Diane then established her own business, Diane Nolan Design Studio, an advertising & graphic design business from 1973 to 1980.
Throughout her years of employment, Diane continued the pursuit of her innate love of the arts in painting, exhibiting in many group shows as well as several one-man shows. She also frequently attended needlepoint and woodworkers groups in Hunterdon County. Diane and her husband Norman also shared a love for Sherlock Holmes. In 1977 Diane was named The Women and guest of honor at The Baker Street Irregulars. She continued to collect Sherlock Holmes memorabilia and art throughout her life.
