World War II Navy veteran and former Union Twp. Fire Chief Edward J. Bachefski passed away at home on Thursday, April 11, 2019, at the age of 92. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Newark, NJ, to the late Joseph and Charlotte Bachefski, Edward graduated from Union High School, where he excelled in Varsity Basketball. Upon graduation in 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the U.S.S. Steven Potter, in the Pacific Theater. Later, Edward joined the Union Fire Department and rose through the ranks to become Chief.

Edward is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Marjorie (nee) Kennet; two loving daughters, Barbara Masterson and Patricia Bilinkas and their husbands, Richard and William; granddaughter Lauren Sharis, her husband Nick and great grandson George Edward; brother Richard Bachefski and his wife Elizabeth; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit the McCracken Funeral Home, 1500 Morris Ave, Union, NJ on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at the Holy Spirit Church, Union, NJ at 10:30 a.m., followed by entombment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery and Mausoleum, East Hanover, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Edward’s name to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

He truly was the best Uncle and Godfather. Growing up around the corner I was able to be at your house a lot making for so many wonderful memories.. There is an empty place in my heart right now but I know he is my Guardian Angel and will always be by my side .. Prayers to you all XO Maur
