Edward Purcell, age 79, of Elizabeth, NJ, formerly of Roselle Park, NJ, passed away on Saturday March 14, 2015. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Genevieve Church 200 Monmouth Road Elizabeth, NJ, on Friday March 20, 2015 at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery E. Hanover. Edward was a member of the East Orange Police Department, serving 28 years, before retiring as a Lieutenant. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy during peace time. He was an avid handball player, playing at a national level. Edward is survived by his devoted sons, Kevin, Douglas and his wife Jennifer, Gregory, Thomas and his wife Mary Purcell along with 7 grandchildren, Kayla, Kelsy, Ryan, Kimberly, Katelyn, Douglas Jr. and Elizabeth.
