

Elizabeth M. Weishapl, 86, of Union, NJ was born to eternal life January 7, 2014 after a brief illness. Beloved wife of Frank Weishapl and loving mother of daughter Deborah Weishapl (Nathaniel Mitchell) and son William (Linda) Weishapl. Proud grandmother of Douglas (Kathryn) Mitchell. She is also survived by her sister Isabel Figlian, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Liz worked at the Newark Evening News until the birth of her children. She then worked at Stan Sommers and The Gerte Shop. Upon retirement she was a tireless volunteer for many charitable organizations especially her close association for 39 years with Trinitas Hospital Auxiliary. There, she worked at the gift shop and organized many fundraisers. She also volunteered at St. Clair’s Home for Children with the HIV Virus. She collected clothes and household articles for the St. Joseph Social Center in Elizabeth.
She was a founding member of Holy Spirit Parish where she served as a Eucharistic minister, a member of the Rosary Altar Society, and trip coordinator of the 60-plus Club. She was awarded the 1992 UNICO’s Richard J. Galante Humanitarian Award. She also received the 2008 Trinitas Volunteer of the Year Award.
Visitation will be held at the McCracken Funeral Home, 1500 Morris Ave Union, NJ on Sunday, January 12 from 2-6 PM.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30AM on Monday, January 13 at Holy Spirit Church, Union with burial to follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the “Liz Weishapl Fund” c/o Trinitas Health Foundation, P.O. Box 259, Elizabeth, NJ 07270.
Liz will be remembered for her unselfish acts of kindness, generosity, and love. She will be greatly missed by all.
