Francine C. Kaufman

Wonderful, sassy wife and mother, who devoted her life to family

Francine Chepiga Kaufman of Union, NJ passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2020 with her family by her side, at the age of 78 but still young at heart.

Attractive and intelligent, she lit up the room. She was fun-loving with a special charm, sharp wit and great sense of humor. She was never afraid to be silly.

Born April 16, 1942 in Long Island City, NY to Frank and Margaret Chepiga, she grew up in Union, NJ where she attended Livingston School, Benedictine Academy and graduated from Union High School. She worked for 30 years as a medical assistant for podiatrists’ offices in Hillside and Livingston, NJ.

A loving individual whose priority was always her children; she was involved in all aspects of their lives. She took leadership positions in their classroom activities, sporting events and scouting. She provided major support to her children throughout their college years and to her husband throughout his career. She always put everyone else first. She deeply loved the family dog, Peppy, and all of our families’ pets.

She was creative and artistic in all aspects of anything homemade. Like her mom, she passed on that creativity to her children. Bowling was a family activity and she was a sports fan, enthusiastically participating from the sidelines or her couch. She never missed the Rose Bowl Parade.

Francine will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her loving husband John (Joe), children Joseph and Karen Kaufman, daughter-in-law Julie Kaufman (née Jacobson) and sister-in-law Margaret (Peggy) Carhart.

Dear Karen and Family, Both Kathy and myself were very sad to hear about the passing of Karen's mom. We both remember the glow and warm heart your mom would show when Ebbie was in her presence. As you recall Ebbie would also glow and her tail would start wagging when she would see your mom. We knew your mom as Karen's mom and did not know her name was Francine. Her name seems fitting in that it resembles the name of St. Frances of whom is the patron saint of animals. Your mom was tender and warm with the animals and we would imagine she is in heaven helping St. Frances and that the animals are happy with excitement to see your mom. With Deepest Sympathies, Mike and Kathy

Your heart is resting
Your eyes fell into dreams
Your soul flew up into heaven
At night you will glow as a star and forever live in our hearts
We wont see you but we know you will always smile upon us.
Rest in peace beautiful lady.

Deepest heartfelt condolences for the loved ones left behind.

My mother, my best friend, my everything. Sassy from day one, my mother was a beauty indeed and in deed. Her smile lit up every room and warmed every heart. She hugged you like she meant it. I will long for that hug again for the rest of my life.
My mom lives on in my heart, but grief of this magnitude is physically painful. She gave me the foundation on which my whole life is built. She made me feel like I could rule the world and looked at me with beams of pride for every little achievement. I know I will never feel that type of incredible love ever again, nor will I feel that love for another person. This loss to me is immeasurable. I have so many hysterical "mom quotes" I will relive in my head forever. Jubilation or jeer, she did it like a champ. Mama bear had a fantastic fury you didn't want to be on the receiving end of. Even if it was directed at me, she always just had my back. She ALWAYS had my back. When she was happy, I was happy, and vice versa. All she wanted was my happiness and health.
She taught me that special way to tie my shoes so they never untie. She wouldn't' let me wear heels until I practiced in them and proved I could walk like a lady. I'll never forget that "7x7 is 49" because she danced around the kitchen singing the times table while cooking dinner. She made all of my Halloween costumes. When I moved out, she gave me the recipe for Campbell's canned soup because she was a smart aleck. She was always teaching, trying to make me a good person in every way. She was so creative and artistic! She enjoyed online gaming, "LOL'd" texted, but still called jeans "dungarees." Her old-school values ran deep, but she taught me to be independent, as long as I texted or called 3 times a day. She was always happy to see me and always waved goodbye from the door or window, ALWAYS. I will apply the lessons she taught me and keep close the love she gave me. I'll keep her alive in my heart, but I'll never be OK with life without my wonderful Mom.

Mrs. Kaufman was such a wonderful and caring woman, who always made you feel welcomed in her home. I have known the Kaufman family for 40 years, since we lived one block away from each other, and I am still very close friends with Karen, whom I cherish dearly and consider "family". Sending my love and prayers to the family. Rest in Peace, Mrs. Kaufman. You will be deeply missed.

What a wonderful, smart, talented and generous woman. We go back to Karen's college years. Mrs. Kaufman treated me like her own. From cleaning our apartment before move in to buying me a flute at a street fair. From sharing her corned beef recipe, which i still use, to making me a ceramic topper for my wedding cake. Mrs. Kaufman was one of a kind. I am grateful for the memories. Words cannot express the grief I feel for your family.
