Franklin was a proud veteran of the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was an active member and usher at the Community Methodist Church in Roselle Park, New Jersey. He was very involved in local youth activities with his children.
Franklin is predeceased by his wife, Clara (Kropilak) Schmitz, and his parents. He is survived by his sister, Miriam Mascola; four children: Frank Schmitz (Sally), Cynthia Moss (Tom), John Schmitz (Donna), and Richard Schmitz (Joy); five loving grandchildren; and a devoted special friend, Edith Hartmann.
A visitation for Franklin will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, from 4:00-8:00 PM at the McCracken Funeral Home, 1500 Morris Avenue in Union, New Jersey.
