Maria Dolores Uribe affectionately known as “Moza” was born on November 12, 1953, to the late Fermin Benedicto Uribe and Maria Dolores Ratto De Uribe in Ancon, Lima, Peru. Surrounded by her family, Maria peacefully transitioned on February 18, 2025, at the age of 71.
Maria was raised in a loving, close-knit family, where she was the baby of five siblings. She received her early education in Ancon, Lima, and in high school, she enjoyed volleyball and ping pong and participated in the Turikes Social Club.
A proud Peruvian who wanted more, she decided to pursue a new life in the early 1970’s and migrated to the United States where she began building her life in New York. Love soon blossomed, and she fell in love with the handsome Luis Elias Rojas. They were united in holy matrimony, and two children were born into their union: Louis Ryan and Jennifer Rose. Maria devotedly embraced her role as wife and mother and was fully committed to her family. The family lived in New York and eventually moved to New Jersey.
Maria found employment in the healthcare industry as a home health aide and hemodialysis technician. She worked passionately serving patients until her health prevented her from helping the patients she loved.
Maria enjoyed many hobbies, including collecting stamps, puzzles, and coloring books. She loved arts and crafts, often selling them at the local Holy Spirit Church market, and frequently gifted family and friends with her creations. Maria was a staunch trader of FIFA stickers. Even with kids, she showed no mercy. And she thoroughly enjoyed attending the FIFA trade shows. She was an active Bernese Mountain Friends Worldwide group member and loved spending time with her beloved fur baby, Bear. Despite all those activities, her most cherished time was spent making memories with her loving family.
Maria enjoyed exploring and seeing the world; it was indeed her oyster. She traveled extensively to Spain, England, France, Italy, Germany, The Netherlands, and the Caribbean, and most recently to Cooperstown to celebrate Louis’ 50th birthday.
Maria would go to great lengths for anyone she cared about, particularly her family. She also had a remarkable sense of humor that could make anyone laugh. Her sharp wit reflected her vibrant personality, showing that behind every sharp remark was a heart full of love and joy.
Maria now joins her parents and siblings, Carmen Uribe Ratto, Pedro Uribe Ratto, and Jose Benedicto Uribe Ratto, all of whom preceded her in death.
Cherishing the precious memories of a rich and full life are her children, Louis Ryan Rojas and Jennifer (Anthony) Rose Rojas; granddaughter Kayla Mondragon; sisters Maria Adriana Uribe Ratto De Rey and Maria Isabel Uribe Ratto De Bendezu. She is also survived by a host of beloved nieces, nephews, extended family, her friend of fifty years, Blazenka Pesa, and her precious and constant companion, Bear, and grand dog, Harley, who will all deeply miss her.
Maria Uribe was a phenomenal woman, daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend. Even throughout her illness, her focus remained on the well-being of her family rather than her struggles.
