It is with deep sorrow and loving remembrance that we announce the passing of Marie Luce Chery, affectionately known as Mama Luce, Ninin, and Tati, who passed away peacefully on August 21, 2026, at the age of 71.

Marie Luce was born on July 8, 1955, in Jeremie, Haiti. She came to the United States in the 1980s and made New Jersey her home. Throughout her life, she remained grounded in faith, family, hard work, and love. As the youngest of 13 siblings, she cherished her family and maintained close relationships with those she loved.

Marie Luce was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, godmother, and friend. She was the beloved wife of Durock St. Pierre and the proud mother of Curdy and Dawleen. Together, Marie Luce and Durock worked tirelessly to build a loving home and provide a strong foundation for their family.

She shared a special bond with her sister Luvenie, her sister Merese, her brother Milo, her brother-in-law Louis, her goddaughter Gallie, her nieces Mime Jude and Telaure, her nephew Marc, her bonus daughter Nataishia, and her many work sons and daughters. Marie Luce had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcomed, valued, and loved. To her, family extended beyond blood; it included everyone she embraced and cared for.

Those who knew Marie Luce will remember her as a beautiful, strong, loving, generous, protective, hardworking, and family-oriented woman. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a sassy personality that brought laughter and joy to those around her. She was always willing to help others and would give freely to ensure that the people she loved were cared for.

Marie Luce was also known for her prayers. She regularly prayed for her family, friends, and others in need. Her faith was a quiet but deeply meaningful part of her life. She was Catholic and attended St. John Church in Orange, New Jersey, faithfully attending Sunday Mass until she was no longer able to do so. She believed in God, found strength in prayer, and welcomed prayers and messages from pastors she trusted. Her faith provided her with comfort, hope, and peace.

Marie Luce was a dedicated and hardworking professional. She worked for 34 years as a dispatcher for Continental Airlines, now United Airlines, while also caring for and providing for her family. After many years of commitment and service, she was especially proud of achieving retirement. Her retirement reflected her perseverance, sacrifice, and dedication.

In her free time, Marie Luce enjoyed spending time with her family, dancing, watching her favorite soap operas—including The Young and the Restless—and listening to stories on YouTube. She loved the music of Celine Dion and, in her later years, found particular joy in gospel music. She also enjoyed Chinese food and kremas, a beloved Haitian traditional drink.

Marie Luce had a special gift for making people feel important. She brought warmth, encouragement, laughter, and positivity wherever she went. Whether she was offering advice, checking on someone, praying for others, or simply spending time with family, she made a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.

Her legacy will live on through the love she shared, the family she nurtured, the friendships she formed, and the many lives she touched. She will be remembered for her beautiful spirit, her generosity, her strength, her faith, and the joy she brought to others.

Although her passing leaves a deep emptiness in the hearts of those who loved her, her memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration. Her laughter, prayers, kindness, and love will continue through her family and all those whose lives she touched.

To her loved ones, Marie Luce was more than Mama Luce, Ninin, or Tati. She was home, comfort, laughter, strength, and love.

Mom, thank you for being you. Thank you for the love you gave, the prayers you prayed, the laughter you shared, and the memories you created. You will always be a part of us, and your love will remain in our hearts forever.

Visitation will be held at McCracken Funeral Home, 1500 Morris Ave, Union, NJ 07083, US, on August 28, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A Prayer Service will follow at McCracken Funeral Home on August 28, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. Committal will take place at Hollywood Memorial Park, 1500 Stuyvesant Ave., Union, NJ 07083, US, on August 28, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm.
