Maureen Potter Ray

passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026.

Maureen was born in Newark, NJ to the late William and Mary

(McLaughlin) Potter. She was their middle daughter and was

preceded in death by her beloved sister Judith (Potter) McKenna

and brother-in-law Joseph McKenna and is survived by her sister

Linda (Potter) Petkov, whose husband, George Petkov, also

preceded her in death.

Maureen graduated from Union High School in 1959. In 1963 she

married Andrew Ray, her husband of 20 years. During her

lifetime, Maureen worked as a secretary at Newark State College

(Kean University). She later stayed at home to raise her two

daughters before becoming an Administrative Assistant for the

Residential Services Department at Honeywell, Inc. Throughout

her 25 years there she was loved and respected by all. Later in

her life, Maureen was blessed with the cherished companionship

of Herbert Binder who predeceased her in 2018.

Maureen is survived by her two loving daughters, Holly (Ray)

Folgia of Cranford, NJ and her husband James Folgia, and

Heather (Ray) Altamura of Oak Ridge, NJ and her husband

Anthony Altamura. Maureen was an amazing grandmother to

Peter and Matthew Folgia and Joseph and Jillian Altamura. She

was also adored by her many nieces and nephews.

Maureen was a remarkable and resilient woman who survived

cancer for more than 40 years. She will be remembered and

admired by all for her infinite positivity and unrelenting strength

and courage.

Maureen’s sole focus in life was loving her family and friends,

many of whom she has known since grade school. Her happiest

place on earth was the Jersey Shore, where she could watch the

ocean and feel the sun while surrounded by those she loved

most

Visitation services will be held at McCracken Funeral Home, located at 1500 Morris Ave, Union, NJ 07083, on January 6, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

A religious ceremony will take place at Connecticut Farms Presbyterian Church, 888 Stuyvesant Ave., Union, NJ 07083, on January 7, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
