Nancy Ann Bartulewicz, 84, of Lakewood, NJ, passed away on June 10th, 2018. Her vibrant and gracious memory lives on in the hearts of those who knew her. Born in 1933 to Joseph and Anne Dougherty, Nancy spent her early life dedicated to her studies and to her younger brother Joseph, gaining independence on the backdrop of Depression-era Newark, New Jersey. As a young girl, Nancy developed and nurtured a deep religious spirit, finding belonging with the women of Catholic faith who taught her. She found a selfless faith, a giving spirit and a rare friendship with God which she nurtured her entire life. She had two sons, Joseph and Jonathan, who survive her today.

Starting as a collections clerk at Sea Land Service, Nancy’s reputation and diligent work ethic afforded her one promotion after another. She ultimately came to serve twelve years as the Director of Quality for the international shipping company. She was respected in every capacity for her intelligence, foresight and feminine strength, known as one who comported herself with dignity and humility in equal measure. She was beloved by the terminal community, honored on two occasions by the Tribute to Woman in Industry (TWIN).

Nancy was an uncommonly kind woman with a fierce Irish spirit and an unwavering faith. She was gracious, as a rule, reaching people of countless spheres and backgrounds with unmitigated mercy. She was full of light, a charming woman with an eye for the beautiful and the good. She welcomed all into her home with grace, comfort and laughter from beginning to end. She is immortalized by the happy world she created in her home and in the hearts of those who loved her.

Visitation is from 3-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 28, at McCracken Funeral Home in Union, NJ. The funeral service will be held at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, June 29, followed by entombment at Woodbridge Gardens in Woodbridge, NJ.

Mother the memories of the phone call that we had on 9/11 haunt me to this day we were on the phone during the events and I will never forget it. Our relationship changed greatly on that day I will never forget the sounds of your office when you said I am watching them jump we did not speak for awhile after and I don't know why, I miss you and will see you soon.

Nancy B… an inspiring colleague, mentor, and dear friend. The beautifully written obituary describes her so well. Always giving. A kind soul. Nancy also had a delightfully dry, often wry sense of humor, which was something I loved about her. I feel very fortunate to have had her touch my life. She is, and always will be, sorely missed.

Mother I think of you each day I am working in my yard and how much we enjoyed the flowers. I hope you have the most beautiful garden where you are. I miss speaking to you.

Mother I miss you so much, they sold all you things and never told me the house is empty I do not know why, I have nothing to remember you by, I wanted what we shared and it was taken away from me. I am having a hard time and their is no one to share it with I am alone with no help. I do not know how to go on at this point.

You named us the "Circle of Friends" and we will not be the same without you.
We've all been there for each other through happy times and sad. You were the first to offer assistance to anyone who needed it. We are so grateful to have so many good memories of our times with you. It will not be the same eating our way up and down the Seaside Boardwalk and searching for Italian Hot Dogs without you or spending a Christmas season without gathering at your home.

Thank you for offering your kindness and friendship from my beginning days at the S/L-COB. One of my first memories of you is when we were redecorating the COB and you had your son, Jonathan, make the shelf that hung behind the HR Assistants and then we had to guard all of the statues that you put on the shelf, especially, from Joe Carbon.

You were the ultimate professional who loved working at Sea-Land more than anyone I knew.

Thank you for your love, friendship and many words of wisdom. You will be missed!

Love, Susan

Over 50 years of being her stylist on a weekly basis. So many laughs with Nancy. More than a client...a friend. She will be missed. But she’s dancing with Elvis.

Nancy , was a truly great and gracious lady who was a joy to work with. She and I swapped position working for Earl the Pearl back in 1977. She cared about her job and the people she worked with. God bless her. Jim Devine
