Patricia Ann Mahon (nee Zaleski) of Union peacefully passed away on May 20, 2020 surrounded by immense love. She was 63. Pat was born on November 10, 1956 to Mr. and Mrs. Eugene and Helen (nee Grzegorzewska) Zaleski. She was raised in Clifton, NJ and attended Catholic schooling for the entirety of her education. She was a devout Catholic and follower of Christ, and was a parishioner of Holy Spirit Church in Union. She graduated from Felician College with a BA in Education and later obtained her Master’s Degree in Education. Pat was an inspirational educator for 35 years, 31 of which she spent molding the minds of the children of the Elizabeth Public School District as a middle school math teacher. She brought endless energy to her classroom, and cared deeply about every last one of the thousands of students that she taught. Her lessons were not just academic; she dedicated her time to making sure her students learned to be kind to others and also to themselves.
Pat was a very talented artist and dancer. She was a halftime dancer for the New York Giants in the early 80’s (despite being an enthusiastic Dallas Cowboys fan). She enjoyed drawing, attending Broadway shows, decorating for holidays and events, and above all, spending time with her daughter, Danielle. Danielle was Pat’s proudest accomplishment and the love she had for her was evident to all of those around her. She spread love everywhere she went and continually put others before herself. She was a second mom to many of Danielle’s friends and was affectionately known as “Mama Mahon.” She was a special friend to many, and will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
Pat was predeceased by her parents, Helen and Eugene Zaleski, brother, Kenneth Zaleski, sister-in-law, Fara Zaleski, nephew, Kevin Zaleski, and brother-in-law, Michael Mahon. She is survived by her loving daughter, Danielle Mahon, husband, John Mahon Jr., nephew, Justin Zaleski, and niece, Morgan Hilliard (nee Zaleski). She was also the Great Aunt to Jaiden and Jania Zaleski, and Kloe, Adalynn, Lillian, and Brody Hilliard. She will additionally be missed by her beloved fur-babies, Tanner and Aspen.
Pat was an extremely generous person, and donated to countless charities. The family asks that she be honored by making a donation to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network in her name, in lieu of flowers.
