Born in the Province of Pangasinan in the Philippines on August 29, 1945, Romeo was the eldest of 10 children to Ludovico and Marciana Alcantara. He emigrated to the United States in 1970 in search of work. He got a job at Merrill Lynch where he ended up spending his entire career. Starting as a margin clerk in 1971, he retired as Vice President of the Margin Department in 2008. On the homefront, he planted roots in NJ and then helped his parents and siblings come over, too, essentially transplanting the Alcantara family tree from the Philippines to the US.
Romeo, also lovingly known as Kuya, Uncle, and Lolo Romy, was an adored son, brother, uncle, husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed playing golf, singing karaoke of Frank Sinatra and Elvis, and watching his favorite shows on The Filipino Channel. He took great pleasure in eating, drinking and sharing stories in the company of his family and friends most of all.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Liwayway; son Glen, and daughter Joyce; granddaughter Remi and grandson Milo; mother Marciana; siblings: Cres, Cora, Gloria, Lilia, Barbara, Myrna, Marilyn and Wilfredo; nieces Jennifer, Melissa, Michelle, Andrea, Angela, Kimberly, Genevieve, Grachelle, Georgia and Gabrielle; nephews Chuck, Melvin and Moses; grandnieces Luci, Precious and Zia; grandnephews Mike, Myles, Benny, Marcus, Mason, Sebastian, Erlo and Thirdy. He is predeceased by his father Ludovico and brother Benigno.
