

Union, New Jersey passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 26, 2024 surrounded by her
loving family. Rose was born on September 4, 1928 and raised in Bloomfield, New Jersey. She was the
daughter of Italian immigrants, Antonio and Frances Christiano, and was one of six children. During her
younger years, Rose enjoyed listening to the music of Frank Sinatra and dancing Swing music. Upon her
graduation from Bloomfield High School, Rose traveled by herself to New Mexico to meet her sister,
Clare. They embarked on a memorable adventure to California. After returning home, she worked at
Fireman’s Insurance Co., Loyalty Group in Newark, where she met her future husband, Charlie.
Following getting married in 1951, they first settled in Bloomfield and spent the majority of their life
together in Union where they raised their three children.
Rose was predeceased by her parents, her dear brothers, William Christiano, Phillip Christiano, and
sisters, Josephine Fucci, and Clare Christiano.
Rose is survived by her loving husband of 73 years, Charles Sommer, Jr. She was a devoted mother to
Susan Junice (Paul) of Union, David Sommer (Christine) of Colonia, and Brian Sommer (Allison) of
Kenilworth. In addition, she is survived by four grandchildren and their spouses, Megan and Michael
Gennaro, Gregory and Jenny Junice, Jessica and Ryan Meade, and Nicholas Sommer, and five great-grandchildren, Luke, Liam, Ryan, Thomas, and Edward, as well as a sister, Anne Trimarco and many
nieces and nephews. Rose enjoyed bowling and was an excellent homemaker, cook, and baker. She
loved sharing stories with her family and friends, and was greatly interested in the lives of her
grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rose was loved by many and will be dearly missed by her family
and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit the McCracken Funeral Home, 1500 Morris Avenue, Union, NJ
on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 from 4-8pm. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, October 30, at
10:30am at The Church of St. Theresa, 541 Washington Avenue, Kenilworth, NJ. A graveside service will
immediately follow at Hollywood Memorial Park, 1500 Stuyvesant Avenue, Union, NJ.
Rose was a pancreatic and breast cancer survivor. The family asks that donations be made to Memorial
