God bless you Veronica forever.

During those formative adolescent years, I had the pleasure of making Veronica's acquaintance through her niece and my dear friend, Teresa. She and her husband welcomed me into their home, as an extension of their affection toward their niece. I found the hospitality, kindness, and friendship given to family. It was my first venture to New York City, the city of cities, and it was Veronica's city. In one day, we went to every place two teenage girls would want to see. I'll never forget standing in front of CBGB's, which no longer exists, feeling like I was standing in the midst of rock legend. It was all surreal, riding the subway sprayed with graffiti, smelling the dried fish of China town, watching street artists at Washington Square Park. I was in a film, in my first great adventure, and Veronica was the director of it all. In this Bohemian woman, I found a kindred soul.
Because Teresa and I were inseparable friends, Veronica was also at all of the important moments in my life, and so, our friendship grew. She encouraged my ambitions to write and helped fill my head with dreams. At the time, she was the first "grown-up" who got it. She seemed to know that art is passionate, tortured, and humorous all rolled into one. Upon my graduation from high school, knowing ambitions to write, she gave me a book of poetry. When my daughter was born, she gave her a children's book of poetry. Every time I share those poems with my daughter I tell her of the special way that they came to her through my friend, my poet, Veronica.
And now, as I reflect upon the impact that she has had in my life, I feel a great sorrow that I could not have shared more time with her, more poems, more passion about this wondrous life. For all of her family and especially the love of her life, I pray for your comfort and peace. Please know that in your grief that you are not alone and that Veronica shall be missed.
