I had the pleasure of getting to know Charlie though his good friend, Phil Ham, when I first came to California over 30 years ago.  Charlie was a character, and I mean that in the most positive way.  Although there was quite an age difference between he and Phil's nephews and their friends, he was easy to talk to and great to be around. He was genuine and always interested in the well-being of others.  My thoughts are with Hazel and the entire family.

Charlie was always thought of as a good friend and trusted employee.  In dealing with him at Camp Prado, I always felt that he always had the gumption to do what was necessary instead of worrying about being Politically correct.  Hazel, to you and your family, please accept my heartfelt condolences on this tragic loss.  I always had and will always have ultimate respect for this amazing man.

I miss my Grandpa tremendously.  He was rough around the edges and as my mom stated, not politically correct at all.  He didn't sugar coat a thing..he may have passed that trait along to a few of us too.  He terrified me as a small child.  He would give me the biggest bear hugs and with his loud voice say, What are doing kid?!?   He'd laugh when I'd get scared and scream for my mom.  Growing up, not too many kids can say their grandpa stopped by to see them and was driving a fire truck, but I could, and for that reason I started calling him Papa with The Fire Truck.  I still called him that even as I got older.  He certainly wasn't a stranger to hard work and appreciated people that knew how to do it. He was always on a mission, fixing something, operating a piece of heavy equipment, or hauling trailers.  There's not a memory that I have from all the times at the cabin with him that will be forgotten; shooting guns, riding three wheelers, telling jokes and teasing one another around the campfiremy Grandpa loved a good campfire,  and in my older years drinking a few screwdrivers with him.  New Year's Eve was always the best at the cabin too.  My Grandpa and Hazel would make a big prime rib dinner for everyone and then we'd all enjoy a few drinks around the huge fire pit my Grandpa and Hazel had.  This New Year's Eve was not the same, and I know that forthcoming ones will not be either.   I'll miss so many things about my Grandpa, right down to his stories about the mischievous things he did as a teenager and about fighting fires.  I'm truly grateful for the memories he gave me.

My dad meant what said and said what he meant. Not a politically correct bone in his body. Life will not be the same without him. The memories and stories are cherished and if you knew my dad plentiful. Hazel was always there for my dad and took good care of him until his last day. Go rest high on that mountain dad, I love you.

Mr.White you will never be forgotten ill never forget the first day you and Hazel moved up to the little dirt road  it was a moment ill say quite the legend always doing something staying busy thats the way he retired if not in Rancho it was at the Ranch or even still running stuff to fire camps always on the roll a wonderful man a ma  that would chew up one side and down the other lol and sit and laugh with you about it later over a beer .Charlie your last alarm has sounded may you walk the walk to the eternal life and Sir your legend will go on REST WELL NEIGHBOR
