In Loving Memory of My Big Brother, Darren
Darren was, and always will be, the coolest guy I’ve ever known. Growing up, he was my hero. Whether he was showing off his natural, effortless athletic talent on the baseball field, blasting the heavy metal music he introduced me to, or rolling down the street in his muscle car, he was personified "Mr. Cool."
But far beyond his natural talents and his skills as a master handyman who could fix absolutely anything, Darren’s true legacy is his massive heart. He possessed an incredible capacity to love and protect his family. Whenever I was down and out in life, Darren was there for me 100%—offering shelter, support, and the strong-hearted advice of a devoted older brother. He always lifted me up, protected me, and wanted the absolute best for me. Even while fighting his own exhausting battles, he always prioritized family, from looking out for our parents to making sure our brother Donald was out on the water enjoying a fishing trip just two weeks ago.
Darren, your body was tired, and I know you are finally resting in peace and walking in God's grace. You are free from the struggles and the pain of this world. There is a beautiful truth that we never truly die, but remain ever-present. You are still right here with us—in the music we play, the memories we share, and some of the ways you helped shaped me into the man I am today.
Thank you for being the best big brother a guy could ever ask for. Rest easy, we got it from here, say hi to the rest of the family up there, and we’ll see you soon. I love you, bro.
