He is survived by his wife of over 70 years, Shirleyann; their daughter, DeAnna; granddaughters Alanna and Shannon; and nieces Christina and Jackie. He was preceded in death by his sister, Darlene.
Donald began his working life at age 10, delivering newspapers for the Long Beach Press-Telegram. In his twenties, he served in the U.S. Army as a military policeman. He later transitioned into healthcare, training as an X-ray technician. Donald ultimately dedicated 28 years to owning and operating Overland Portable X-Ray Service alongside his wife and daughter.
A lifelong learner, he earned a B.A. in Social Sciences and History from Cal State LA in the 1960s and later obtained a teaching credential from Cal Poly Pomona in the 1990s when most of his peers were enjoying their retirements. He worked as a substitute teacher and per diem X-ray technician until age 82.
Above all, Donald cherished his family. He would say his greatest legacy was the love he shared with Shirleyann—his best friend and wife—his daughter DeAnna, and his granddaughters, whom he taught generosity and a lifelong love of learning.
Shirleyann will miss her “Donzy,” DeAnna her “Dad”, and Alanna and Shannon their beloved “Grandpa Donald Duck”.
