

Donald Eugene McDonald of Upland, California, passed away on May 30, 2013 at the age of 90, in the presence of his immediate family. He was born October 26, 1922, in Reward, CA, a small town in the oil fields of central California. His family later lived in Whittier, where he graduated from high school, and Ventura, where he attended two years of college before enlisting in the Army Air Corps at in July of 1942. "Mac" re-enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and later the U.S. Air Force for 20 years. He served in China, Italy, Japan, and Korea. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked as an electronics technician and electronics technician and electronics engineer in research and design at General Dynamics, Pomona Division, for 28 years, retiring at the age of 69 in 1991. He loved Formula One races, ice cream, and the comics, often saying they were the only part of the newspaper worth reading. Mac was well known for his love of telling stories.
During a tour of duty at Youngstown Air Force Base in Ohio, Mac met and married Evelyn Smith, his wife of 60 years. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, son Keith and daughter Meg, grandchildren Sean McDonald, Kyle McDonald, and Brianna Mauricio (McDonald), and great grandchildren Olivia McDonald, Julia McDonald, Evie Mauricio, and Sawyer Mauricio, and nieces Carol Galloway, Judy Dockstader, and Kathy Koyle. A military funeral will take place July 26, 2013, 11:45 a.m., at Riverside National Cemetery.
