We met John when he did our taxes, after my wife and I purchased
our first home in Ontario. At the time, John was working for Mets
and Mets. We loved John’s low key demeaner, his way of
explaining tax questions in a manner that was easy to understand
and making you feel like family. John did our taxes for over 30
years. Even after we moved the Carson City, Nevada 10 years ago,
we would return to California every year so John could do our
taxes. He will be missed.

I spent little time with John over the years, as I moved from LA shortly after Jill and John married. What I do know from the moment he met her was that he felt like the luckiest man in the world. It was obvious to me, over the years, that he respected and admired his wife. I can only imagine the joy he took in Jonathan’s life journey. As a husband and father, he showed his love by being a good and generous provider. I remember John as a quiet, reserved man and may he have found “The peace that passes all understanding.” Amen

We would like to express our deep condolences to the family of John Kendrick. He did our taxes for over twenty years, and thanks to him, we were actually looking forward to our annual appointments. What otherwise would have been an exercise of dread and drudgery, became, thanks to John’s wonderful mastery of all the intricacies and pitfalls of the tax system, a painless and even enjoyable hour. Even though we had no other contact with him during the year, we always felt that he genuinely cared about how we were doing in our lives.

We were saddened when we were notified that he had given up his practice for health reasons. Even though we did not know his family, we were always impressed by how proud he was as a father, when he told us of the many milestones that his son had accomplished during the years. We will miss the genuine warmth and humanity that he has shown us over all these years and extend our warmest wishes of sympathy to his loved ones.

I had the distinct pleasure of knowing John (& Jill) for over 25 years. He began doing my taxes in the early 1990's and shortly thereafter also my corporate taxes. Even after I moved from CA to NC, I would fly out to CA to see John and have him prepare my taxes. We always enjoyed a passionate debate and laughed a lot.

For the last year or so while John was battling his own issues, he still took the time to reach out to me/call me to see how I was doing. That was just the kind of person John was. I will miss talking with him and I will say prayers for Jill and their son (who John was SO proud of)!

John Kendrick was an inspirational force for my wife and I and we realize what a tremendous loss this is for family and community. Having grown up in the area, I can relate to what it takes to start and operate a small business like Kendrick & Company and survive while making enough money to raise a fine family and be a positive force in the community. Ruthie and I met John 20 years ago on the recommendation of a friend and co-worker (the late Mark Robertson) and have been with John as clients ever since. We felt really "exclusive" having John as our tax advisor - like we were part of a very privileged group. While tax preparation can be an agonizing experience on some occasions, it was always fun to visit with John and hear his unique and well-versed take on the world and business at large. One of my fondest desires was to one day share a dinner table with John and his wife after we were both retired - as a friend, and trade family and business anecdotes. We'll still do it, but it will have to wait a bit.

I could fill this page with superlatives about John Kendrick, but let's just remember him as the best. He is.
