

Maria de la Luz, known affectionately by her loved ones as Lucy, age 88, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2026, at Fianna Hills Nursing Home in Fort Smith, AR. Born on December 22, 1937, in Upland, CA, to Ponciano Ybarra and Manuela Martinez, Lucy lived a life full of faith, love, and family.
Lucy was a devoted homemaker, cherishing her role as the heart of her family. Her children and grandchildren were her most treasured accomplishments, and she poured all her heart into nurturing and guiding them. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, her faith being her guiding light. With strong Catholic beliefs, she always encouraged her loved ones to seek guidance from God. Her often repeated advice, "pray about it and God will give you the answer," is a testament to her unshakeable faith.
Lucy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Reynaldo (Rey) Millan; her parents, Ponciano Ybarra and Manuela Martinez; her sister, Beatrice Ybarra; her brother, Rodolfo Ybarra; and her cherished children, Bennie Alvarez, Jr., and AnnaMarie Ortiz.
She is survived by her son, Richard Ybarra and his wife Sonjia; Patricia (Patty) Merrell and her husband David of Fort Smith, AR; son-in-law Daniel Ortiz of Estancia NM; brother, Ponciano Ybarra and his wife Luiza of Bloomington, CA; and her sisters, Raquel Ybarra of Colton, CA, Julia Martinez of Ontario, CA, and Barbara Serrato and her husband Lupe of Rialto. She was a cherished grandmother to ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Lucy's life will be celebrated with a funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 24, 2026, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Upland, CA, with burial to follow in Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery in Ontario, CA, under the direction of Stone Funeral Home of Upland, CA.
