Manuel came to California from Mexico as a child, where he grew up in the citrus groves of La Verne. He managed the groves alongside his father, and eventually became their truck driver, delivering fruit to local packinghouses where he later met the love of his life, Martha. His humble beginnings and heritage were a great source of pride for him, and above all else he valued the work ethic his father instilled in him. Seeing his family name on a street sign in La Verne was a testament to the love and legacy that he cherished, as well as his belief in the American Dream. These values and ethics he passed on to his children and grandchildren, who will continue to uphold that legacy.
Manuel proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, and was a veteran of the Vietnam War . He then proudly served his community as a CHP Officer for 24 1/2 years. During his time he wore many hats, from Traffic Officer, Backgrounds Investigator, Flight Officer, and Commercial Enforcement Officer. Even in retirement he valued the brotherhood that came from his career in law enforcement.
Manuel leaves behind Martha, his loving wife of 42 1/2 years. He is survived by his children, Rebecca Barrilleaux (Beau), Pamela Quinteros (Matthew), and Marcus Landeros. His five grandchildren left to cherish his memory are Aubrey Barrilleaux, Darin Barrilleaux, Ethan Quinteros, Mason Quinteros and Harper Quinteros. He is also survived by his siblings Salvador Landeros and Cristina Landeros. He was reunited with his parents and brother Jess Landeros.
Manuel loved life, and had an adventurous spirit that loved road trips and traveling. He never met a stranger, and could bring calm in the midst of any storm. He had strong faith , and frequently took notice of the beauty in God's creation, and always encouraged us to see it too. His kindness and the impact he had on others will be one of his lasting legacies.
Although our hearts are broken and we can't picture our life without him, we are grateful for the beautiful memories we share, and for the love and laughter he brought to all who were blessed to know him.
