Mary h ad a "huge heart." Her involvement with students extended beyond the classroom into their personal lives, something I admired about her. When we gathered in the teacher's lounge for lunch , she graced us with stories about her students who were fortunate to have a teacher liker her because she not only shared her heart with them but also her knowledge and love of science.

Mary was one of the shining lights on campus. Not only was her presence felt and known in the classroom but also in the extracurricular activities sponsored by student council, the Associated Student Body (ASB), or staff and faculty. Wherever she was needed, that's where she could be found. Whatever her hands could do, she did willingly. 

I enjoyed being around Mary. She was what I call "a real down-to-earth person. No pretense. No hypocrisy. I loved that about her.  

Coining the words of Johnny, a character in The Outsiders,  a book read and enjoyed by Lone Hill students, Mary was "golden." Although my heart is sad, I celebrate and honor the memory of a beautiful person!


I am so sorry for our loss of Mary.  I hoped we would have many other opportunities to share our retirement experiences.  
We started teaching 8th Grade Science at Lone Hill the same year.  We called ourselves the McScience team.  She had energy to spare and loved teaching.  I remember when she began guesting all 8th grade teachers in her room on Fridays to discuss how to help students who needed additional attention.  She was a believer in collaboration between teachers and grade levels.  And very efficient and professional!  A good person.  A friend.
My thoughts are with her son, of whom she was very proud, and her family in this time of sorrow.
